Retirement Projection Calculator
Calculate a projected timeline for your retirement savings based on current contributions and expected expenses.
About this tool
This tool calculates a basic timeline for retirement savings. By entering your current financial baseline, expected annual expenses, and anticipated investment growth, it projects when your portfolio might sustain your retirement. It includes input fields for safe withdrawal rates, inflation-adjusted returns, and annual savings contributions to let you test different financial scenarios and view the resulting timeline.
The calculator uses a standard compound interest formula applied annually. It determines your target portfolio size by dividing your expected annual expenses by your specified safe withdrawal rate. It then projects future balances by applying your real return rate to your current balance and adding your annual savings contribution at the end of each period, plotting the data points onto the adjacent chart.
This projection relies entirely on static assumptions and basic mathematics. It uses a constant rate of return and does not account for market volatility, sequence of returns risk, taxes, or varying inflation rates over time. The output is a mathematical estimate meant for general structural planning, not a guarantee of future market performance. It should not be used as a replacement for professional financial advice.
